HISTORY

The Knanaya Catholic Association of Georgia (KCAG) used to organize Syro-Malabar Holy Mass in Atlanta whenever a priest was available. The president of KCAG Jacob Athimattathil had made attempts to buy a church for the community. He invited Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath to offer Holy Mass and motivate the people to establish mission and buy a church for the mission. KCAG members welcomed the idea based on the presentation of Fr. Mutholath and applied to Mar Jacob Angadiath to establish a Knanaya Catholic Mission in Atlanta.

Mar Jacob Angadiath established the Knanaya Catholic Mission in Atlanta, Georgia on August 15, 2008 with Fr. Stany Edathiparambil as the mission director. This mission bought a church of its own under the leadership of Fr. Stany. Mar Jacob Angadiath consecrated the church and elevated this mission as a parish on April 4, 2009 and appointed Rev. Fr. Stany Edathiparambil as its first pastor.

Fr. Abey Vadakkekara served as the vicar of this parish since July 1, 2010. Fr. Dominic Madathilkalathil took charge as the pastor of this parish on November 1, 2011. Rev. Fr. Jemy Puthusseril was the pastor of this parish from October 18, 2014 to April 30, 2018. Rev. Fr. Boban Vattampurath took charge as the pastor of the parish on May 1, 2018. Rev. Fr. Benoy Naramangalathu was appointed as the pastor from March 7, 2021 to September 14, 2023. Mar Joy Alappatt appointed Fr. Jose Chirappurath as the pastor from September 15, 2023.

The parish celebrated its tenth anniversary on July 21, 2019. Vicar General Fr. Thomas Mulavanal officiated the Holy Mass and presided over the anniversary celebration.

This parish serves around 100 Knanaya Catholic families living in the State of Georgia.

TIMELINE

2008 August 15: Mar Jacob Angadiath established the Knanaya Catholic Mission of Atlanta with Fr. Stany Edathiparambil as the mission director.

2009 April 4: Mar Jacob Angadiath consecrated the church and elevated the mission as a parish and appointed Rev. Fr. Stany Edathiparambil as its first pastor

2010 July 1: Fr. Abey Vadakkekara was appointed as the vicar of this parish.

2011 November 1: Fr. Dominic Madathilkalathil took charge as the pastor of the parish.

2014 October 18: Fr. Jemy Puthusseril became the pastor of the parish.

2018 May 1: Fr. Boban Vattampurath took charge as the pastor of the parish.

2019 July 21: The parish celebrated its tenth anniversary with Vicar General Fr. Thomas Mulavanal as the chief guest.

2021 March 7: Fr. Binoy Naramangalath took charge as the pastor of the parish

2023 September 15: Mar Joy Alappatt appointed Fr. Jose Chirappurath as the pastor.
