The Syro-Malabar Knanaya Catholic Mission of Philadelphia was started under the Latin hierarchy at St. Antony of Padova Church, Ampler, Pennsylvania in 1999, with Rev. Fr. Thomas Vattothuparambil as its director. He offered monthly Qurbana for the community.
After the establishment of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago in 2001, Mar Jacob Angadiath officially recognized the Knanaya Catholic Mission of Houston on October 29, 2003, along with nine other Knanaya Catholic Missions in the USA, as a mission of the St. Thomas Diocese of Chicago. He also confirmed the appointment of Fr. Thomas Vattothuparambil as the director of this mission.
When Fr. Vattothuparambil went back to Kottayam, Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Jose Tharackal as the mission director from October 23, 2009.
