ASSIGNMENTS

NEW YORK (1993 March 27 – 1999 January)

Bishop Thomas Daily of Brooklyn Diocese established the Knanaya Catholic Mission in New York and appointed Fr. Jose Saurianmakil as its director on March 27, 1993. The official inauguration of the mission was on April 17, 1993. Fr. Jose Sauriamakil served the mission until Fr. Michael Nedumthuruthil was appointed as the director in January 1999.

WESTCHESTER AND BRONX  (1993 September – 1997 April)

Fr. Jose Saurianmakil started Holy Mass in the Syro-Malabar rite in Our Lady of Victory Church, Mount Vernon, NY on every second Sunday from September 1993. Later in 1996, at the request of Bishop of Kottayam Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, Archbishop of New York John Cardinal O’Connor established a Knanaya Catholic Mission in the Archdiocese in April 1997 with Fr. Thomas Kottoor as the director.

CARTERET, NJ (1993 October 24 – 1999 January 24)

At the request of the Knanaya Catholics living in the New Jersey and surrounding areas, Fr. Joseph Saurianmakil started Holy Mass in Syro-Malabar Rite from fourth Sunday of October 1993. That paved the way for the formation of a Knanaya Catholic Mission in New Jersey. At the beginning, people from Rockland area also were participating in the Holy Mass here. However, at the request of the people there, Rockland Knanaya Catholic Mission was started later. Fr. Jose Sauriamakil served the mission until Fr. Michael Nedumthuruthil was appointed as the director from January 24, 1999.

ROCKLAND, NY (1994 December 24 – 1998 December 19)

Fr. Jose Saurianmakil started Holy Mass in the Syro-Malabar Rite in Rockland with the Christmas Eve Mass on December 24, 1994. Later in 1996 at the request of Bishop of Kottayam Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry, the Archbishop of New York John Cardinal O’Connor established a Knanaya Catholic Mission in Rockland.

Fr. Jose Saurianmakil served the mission until the Archbishop of New York appointed Rev. Fr. Abraham Kalarickal as the director on December 20, 1998.

DALLAS (2009 July 5 – 2015 January 24)

Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Jose Sauriamakkil as the director of the Knanaya Catholic Mission, Dallas on July 5, 2009. Fr. James Cheruvil was the former director.

Under the leadership of Fr. Jose Sauriamakkil, the mission bought a church from Webb Chapel Baptist Church in Farmers’ Branch on June 7, 2010. Mar Jacob Angadiath, along with Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Mar Joseph Pandarasseril consecrated the church on July 26, 2010 and elevated the mission as a parish and appointed Rev. Fr. Joseph Sauriamkail as its first pastor.

Fr. Jose Sauriamakkil served the parish until Mar Jacob Angadiath until January 24, 2015 and appointed Fr. Mathew Meledath as the pastor.

TAMPA  (2017 November 6 – 2018 April 30)

Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Joseph Saurimakal as pastor of Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Mission in Tampa from November 6, 2017. Fr. Dominic Madathilkalathil was the previous pastor.

Fr. Joseph Sauriamakil served the parish until Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Mathew Meledath as pastor from May 1, 2018.

MIAMI (2018 May 1 – 2020 August 17)

Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Joseph Suariamakil as the pastor of St. Jude Knanaya Catholic Parish, Miami on May 1, 2018. Fr. Suni Padinjarekkara was the former pastor.

Fr. Joseph Suariamakil served the parish until Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Jose Chirappurath as the pastor from August 18, 2020.

Mar Jacob Angadiath relieved Rev. Fr. Joseph Sauriamakal from service in the diocese with effect from August 17, 2020.
