The Brooklyn Diocese appointed Fr. Michael Nedumthuruthil as the director of the Knanaya Catholic Mission in New York in January 1999. Fr. Jose Sauriamakil was the previous director.
After the establishment of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago in 2001, Mar Jacob Angadiath officially recognized this mission on October 29, 2003, along with nine other Knanaya Catholic Missions in the USA, as a mission of the St. Thomas Diocese of Chicago. He also confirmed the appointment of Fr. Michael Nedumthuruthil as the director of this mission. He served the mission until Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. Thomas Animoottil as the director from January 15, 2005.
Mar Jacob Angadiath relieved Fr. Michael from his service in the Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago in January 2005.
