Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath elevated five parishes of Knanaya Catholic Region as Forane parishes on February 28, 2015. They are Sacred Heart Church in Chicago, St. Mary’s Church in Houston, St. Stephen’s Church in New York, Sacred Heart Church in Tampa and St. Mary’s Church in San Jose.
St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Parish in Houston, Texas was declared as a Forane Parish of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago on February 18, 2015 by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath. The official establishment of the forane was held on March 15, 2015 by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath and inaugurated by Auxiliary Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt at Mary’s Church in Houston. Fr. Saji Pinarkayil became the first forane vicar.
Houston Forane Bible Fest was held at St. Mary’s Church, Houston on September 20, 2015. Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Vicar Geneeral Fr. Thomas Mulavanal were the chief guests.
