Chronology of Events

Here we give a chronological description of events that happened in the pre-history and history of the Knanaya Catholic Region.

2021

2021 August 21, 2021: Orlando Knanaya Catholic mission was raised as a parish and Fr. Jose Adoppillil is appointed as the first pastor of the newly elevated parish.

2020

2020 May 29-31 Start of pre marriage course for youth through zoom meeting because of COVID-19 pandemic.

2020 December 6: Rockland Knanaya Catholic parish bought a cemetery close to the church from Rockland county.

2019

2019 May 26 Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt has given Bro. Joseph the sub-diaconate order at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Parish, Chicago St. May’s Parish, Morton Grove, purchased a New house for Rectory and its blessing was done by Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt.

2019 July 21 Fr. Thomas Mulavanal, VG and Regional Director celebrated Mass and presided at the 10th anniversary celebration, Holy Family Parish, Atlanta

2019 September 14-15 Fr. Thomas Mulavanal inaugurated 10th anniversary celebration and the main feast of St. Pius X Knanaya Catholic Parish, Montebello, Los Angeles.

2018

May 25, 2018 Mar Jacob Angadiath established St. Stephen's Knanaya Catholic Mission in Orlando. Auxiliary Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt along with Vicar General and Regional Director Fr. Thomas Mulavanal inaugurated the mission on this day. Fr. Mathew Meladath was appointed as the mission director.

2018 July 26 Bro. Joseph (Ankit) Thachara received his Minor Order Karoya from Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkattu.

2018 September 15 Christ the King Knanaya Catholic Mission bought a new church from the Catholic Diocese of Metuchen in the city of Carteret. Mar Jacob Angadiath blessed the church along with Mar Mathew Moolakatt, Mar Joy Alappatt and Vicar General Fr. Thomas Mulavanal. Fr. Renny Kattel is the newly appointed pastor of the parish.

2018 September 21-23 Ezra Meet School of Evangelization residential retreat for 45 spiritual leaders from parishes and missions. Br. Santhosh Christeen, Bibi Thekkanatt, Tobby Manimaleth, Jenson Kollaparambil, Stephen Puthupallimyalil, Fr. Thomas Mulavanal and Fr. Bins Chethalil were the leaders in this meeting.

2018 September 28 Regional representatives meeting at St Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church, Chicago attended by 68 participants including priests, religious sisters, and lay representatives. Vicar General Fr. Thomas Mulavanal officiated the Holy Mass along with priests of the region. Mar Jacob Angadiath was the chief guest at the concluding session. The meeting discussed on the working of existing commissions and future endeavors of the region.

2018 October 14 Mar Jose Kalluvely inaugurated the Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Mission of London, Canada. Vicar General of Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago Fr. Thomas Mulavanal celebrated Holy Mass. Fr. Pathrose Champakkara is the director of the mission.

2018 November 1 Fr. Thomas Mulavanal blessed the new rectory in Detroit bought under the leadership of Fr. Philip Ramachanatt.

2018 Nov.9 Vicar General Fr. Thomas Mulavanal blessed the new Rectory cum Chapel in San Antonio bought by St. Anthony’s Parish in San Antonio under the leadership of Fr. Binoy Naramangalath.

2017

2017 January 01 Year of youth was inaugurated in the Knanaya Region.

2017 January 28-29 Knanaya Catholic Region Cenacle Meet 2017 (Thapas Retreat) on January 28 and 29 at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Parish, Chicago lead by Bro. Santhosh-Christeen Team. We had over 100 participants from the region.

2017 March 4-5 Cenacle meet at Miami, Tampa Forane.

2017 June 4 Mar Joseph Pandarasseril blessed the new rectory of St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Parish, San Jose.

2017 June 14 Demise of Archbishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry who laid foundation for Knanaya Missions and Parishes of the Knanaya Region. Vicar General represented Knanaya region in the funeral.

2017 June 30 – July 2 Knanaya Region Family Conference held at St. Mary’s Knayana Catholic Parish, Chicago. Bishops Mar Jacob Angadiath, Mar Joseph Pandarasseril, and Mar Joy Alappatt were chief guests. Rev. Dr. Joseph Pamplaniyil, Fr. Joseph Puthenpura, Regi Kottaram, Thomas Pulickal were speakers of the conference. Knanaya Region Youth Conference held at Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Forane Parish, Chicago. Bishops Mar Jacob Angadiath, Mar Joseph Jose Pandarasseril, and Mar Joy Alappatt were chief guests. Br. Regi Kottaram, Fr. Thomas Loya, Mark Nemo, Dr. Alex Gotay, and others gave message.

2017 July 23 New Knanaya Ministry is inaugurated with Holy Mass by Fr. Thomas Mulavanal, Regional Director in Traisy (Stoketon) CA. Fr. Mathew Meledath is in charge of this ministry. This ministry will remain part of the San Jose Parish.

2017 August 5 St. Joseph's Congregation sent three sisters (Sr. Reji, Sr. Joice and Sr. Jossy), to start a new convent in Houston, TX. They arrived in Houston.

2017 September 23 St. Mary's Knanaya Parish, Rock Land, New York bought a church from the Archdiocese of New York at 46 Conklin Ave., Haverstraw, New York, 10927. The church was blessed and rededicated on September 23, 2017 by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath who elevated the mission as a parish on the same day. Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt offered the first mass of the church after the blessing and also inaugurated the parish. Rev. Fr. Jose Adoppallil is appointed as the first pastor of this parish.

2017 November 10-12 Ezra School of Evangelization: A prayerful study and leadership residential retreat for representatives from all missions and parishes of Knanaya Region held in Chicago at Pheasant Run Resort, St. Charles. Fr. Thomas Mulavanal, Fr. Sunil Inekattu, Bro. Santhosh T., Fr. Suni Padinjarekkara, Bro. Biju, Bibi Thekkanattu and others lead the sessions.

2016

2016 February 25 Bishop Michael Mulhall, the delegate appointed by the Oriental congregation visited Chicago and interviewed delegates of the Knanaya Region, priests, lay representatives Region and Association and youth at the Syro Malabar Bishop's House, Chicago.

2016 July 1 Rev. Fr. Pathrose Champakkara is appointed as the director of St. Mary's Knanaya Mission, Toronto, Canada by Bishop Mar Jose Kalluvelil

2016 August 19 -21 Chicago Forane Youth Retreat by Kairos Team at Bishop Lane Retreat Center, Rockford.

2016 September 9 Inauguration of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish, Chicago by Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt.

2016 September 10 10th anniversary celebration of Knanaya Catholic Region. Over 200 Regional representatives (priests, religious and Laity) from 12 parishes and 9 missions of the Knanaya region gathered at St. Mary's Knanaya Catholic Parish, Chicago to discuss the pastoral issues of the Knanaya immigration. Major Archbishop George Cardinal Alancherry, Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Michael Mulhall, Bishop of Penbrooke, Canada, (delegate appointed by the Oriental congregation for the Knanaya issues), Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakatt, Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt were present at the daylong celebration.

2016 September 11 Final Day of the 10th anniversary celebration of the Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish, Chicago. Inauguration by Syro-Malabar Major Archbishop Mar George Cardinal Alancherry. Other dignitaries were: Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt, and Bishop Most Rev. Dr. Michael Mulhall (Canada). Priests from the Knanaya Region and other invited priests were also concelebrants.

2016 November 10 Blessing of Visitation Convent in Tampa by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath.

2015

2015 February 28 Mar Jacob Angadiath elevated five Churches of the Knanaya Region today to the status of Forane Parishes: Sacred Heart Church Chicago IL, Sacred Heart Church Tampa FL, St. Mary's Church Houston TX, St. Stephen's Church New York, and St. Mary's Church San Jose CA.

2015 March 15 Inauguration of newly elevated St. Mary's Knanaya Catholic Parish, Houston as Forane Parish by Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt. Fr. Suni Padijarekkara is appointed as forane vicar.

2015 March 22 Elevation of Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish as a Forane by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath in the presence of Bishop Mar Joy Alappatt and Bishop Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy. Fr. Abraham Mutholath is appointed as forane vicar.

2015 March 29 Inauguration of newly elevated St. Stephen's Knanaya Catholic parish, New York as Forane Parish by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath. Fr. Jose Tharackal is appointed as forane vicar.

2015 April 11 Inauguration of newly elevated Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish, Tampa, FL as Forane parish by Vicar General, Fr. Thomas Mulavanal. Fr. Dominic Madathikalathil is appointed as forane vicar.

2015 April 19 Inauguration of newly elevated St. Mary's Knanaya Catholic Parish, San Jose, CA as Forane parish by Vicar General Fr. Thomas Mulavanal. Fr. Saji Pinarkayil is appointed as forane vicar.

2015 May 31 Consecration of new church for St. Jude's Knanaya Catholic Mission, Miami, FL by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath at the presence of Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakatt, Archbishop Thomas Wenski (Miami, and Regional Director Fr. Thomas Mulavanal. Fr. Jose Adoppilly is appointed as the first pastor of the new parish.

2015 June 26-28 Marriage Preparation Course at Sacred heart Knanaya Catholic Church, Tampa. The first pre-marriage course held outside Chicago for the region.

2015 July 18 Knanaya Region Pastoral Council in Detroit. Council recommended to conduct regional family conferences in connection with family year and discussed about the ecclesial development of the Knanaya Catholic Region.

2015 July 19 Essay competition on family organized by Knanaya Region.

2015 August 29 Regional director Fr. Thomas Mulavanal Celebrated Mass on the first Feast day celebration of St. John Newmann Knanaya Catholic Mission of Philadelphia. As Fr. Mathew Manakkatt is returning to India, and the place where he was living will not be available for the residence of new mission director, Vicar general urged the people to prepare for our own church facility. Also, on this day a teachers training program was organized.

2015 September 5 San Jose Forane Bible Fest held at St. Mary’s Church. Chief guests: Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Fr. Thomas Mulavanal.

2015 September 13 Tampa Forane Bible Fest held at St. Mary’s Church. Chief guests: Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Fr. Thomas Mulavanal.

2015 September 19 New York Forane Bible Fest held at St. Stephen's Church. Chief guests: Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Fr. Thomas Mulavanal.

2015 September 20 Houston Forane Bible Fest held at St. Mary’s Church. Chief guests: Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Fr. Thomas Mulavanal.

2015 November 27 Oriental congregation officially informed Fr. Thomas Mulavanal regarding the appointment of H. E. Msgr. Michael Mulhall, Bishop of Penbroke (Canada) as Visitator Delegate ad Referendum for questions related to the Knanaya community for general study that include Knanaya region in the USA.

2015 December 20 Fr. Jose Adoppallil was appointed as mission director at Rockland, New York. Fr. Reny Kattel was appointed as Mission Director at New Jersey and Philadelphia mission, Fr. Suni Padinjarekkara is appointed as Pastor at Miami parish, Fr. Jose Chirappurath is appointed as associate pastor in the Chicago parishes.

2015 May 26: Consecration of the new church at 9345 Oakland Road, San Antonio by Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Mar Joy Alappatt blessed the newly installed cross on the same day.

2014

2014 February 8 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Rev. Fr. Thomas Mulavanal as the Vicar General and director of the Knanaya Catholic Region. Fr. Thomas Mulavanal continued to reside in Los Angeles until the general transfer of the Knanaya Priests.

2014 September 19 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath decreed the Synadal consensus reached by His Beatitude Mar George Cardinal Alencherry, the Major Archbishop, His Grace Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and His Ex. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath regarding the membership in the knanaya parishes and missions. Only Knanaya Catholics will be members of the Knanaya parishes/missions. if a kanaya person marries with a non knanaya partner that non knanaya partner and children will remain members of the local non Knanaya Syro Malabar parish.

2014 September 27 Episcopal Ordination of Mar Joy Alappatt at Mar Thoma Sleeha Cathedral.

2014 October 15 Rev. Fr. Thomas Mulavanal, moved his residence from Los Angeles to Chicago. New appointments of the Knanaya Priests in the Diocese: Fr. Abraham Mutholath, SHKC parish, Maywood, Fr. Thomas Mulavanal SMKC Parish, Chicago, Fr. Dominic Madathikalathil (Tampa), Fr. Jemi Puthussery (Atlanta), Fr. Mathew Meledam (Dallas), Fr. Saji Pinarkayil (Houston), Fr. Siju Mudakodiyil (Los Angeles & Las Vegas), Fr. Jose Adoppilly (Miami), Fr. Pathrose Champakkara (San Jose).

2013

2013 June 25 – July 6 Pilgrimage to Holy Land organized by Knanaya Region as part of Year of Faith celebration.

2013 July 18 – 21 Knanaya Region Family Retreat from in Chicago at Westin Hotel, 601 N. Milwaukee Ave., Wheeling, IL. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath and Knanaya Region priests were celebrants of the liturgy. Shev. Benny Punnathura, Dr. John D., and Rev. Fr. Joseph Vayalil lead the retreat for adults in Malayalam. Shiju Philiph, Thara Devereaux and team lead the youth retreat in English. Tom and Annie lead teenagers’ retreat in English.

2013 September 21 – October 3 Year of Faith Pilgrimage organized by Knanaya Catholic Region to Greece, Turkey & Medjugorje (Bosnia). “Footsteps of Paul” starting from Chicago under the leadership of Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath.

2012

2012 February 6 St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Mission of San Jose bought a church building on under the leadership of Fr. Stany Edathiparambil.

2012 February 24 Knanaya Region Meeting held in Los Angeles with Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkattu.

2012 March 1 Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt made clarification on Knanaya membership issue at a public meeting held at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church, Chicago.

2012 March 17 Meeting of pastoral council members of St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago from Knanaya Region held at St. Mary’s Church, Chicago.

2012 April 29 Sixth Knanaya Region Day Celebration in the parishes and missions.

2012 October 9 Purchase of Rectory at Elmhurst by Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish in Chicago.

2012 October 10 Johny Thekkeparambil and Tonny Pullappallil met with Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath at the Bishop’s House in Chicago and presented the petition drafted by Knanaya Catholic Region Pastoral Council.

2012 October 26 – 28 First Forty Hour Adoration at Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish inaugurated by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath.

2012 November 27 His Grace Mar Mathew Moolakkatt blessed the rectory of Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish bought at Elmhurst.

2011

2011 June 10 Centenary Celebrations of Kottayam Diocese by Knanaya Region at Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church Chicago. Holy Mass by Archbishop Mar Mathew Moolakkatt with Knanaya Region Priests. Angels’ Meet, honoring graduates from high school and eighth grade, and honoring couples who have 10th 25th and 50th wedding anniversaries.

2011 October 8 Meeting of Lay Representatives from Knanaya Parishes and mission in the Knanaya Region at St. Mary’s Church at 6:00 P.M.

2011 October 27 Knanaya Region priests meeting at St. Mary’s Church, Chicago at 2:30 P.M. followed by concelebrated Holy Mass at 7:00 P.M.

2011 November 5 Consecration of the Knanaya Catholic church in Houston by His Grace Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath and His Excellency Mar Joseph Pandarasseril. The mission is elevated as a parish today.

2011 November 12 Inauguration of Pope John Paul II Knanaya Catholic Mission, Sacramento by Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath. Fr. Stany Edathiparambil is the mission director.

2011 December 31 Inauguration of Knanaya Region electronic newsletter and blog in the name of Knanaya Media at St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Parish by Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath.

2010

2010 January 14 St. Mary’s Unit bought a Jewish Synagogue at 7800 W. Lyons St., Morton Grove, IL 60053 for St. Mary’s Knanaya Catholic Church.

2010 July 1 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath has appointed Fr. Stany Edathiparambil the former pastor of Atlanta as the Director of San Jose Mission. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath has appointed Fr. Bins Chethalil who came recently from Kottayam as mission director of Tampa. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath has appointed Fr. Abey Vadakkekara the former mission director of Tampa as the pastor of Atlanta

2010 July 17 Church Consecration in Detroit by Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, Mar Jacob Angadiath, and Mar Joseph Pandarasseril at 9:30 A.M.

2010 July 18 Consecration of St. Mary’s Church in Morton Grove at 9:30 A.M. by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath. Mar Mathew Moolakkatt, Archbishop of Kottayam was the main celebrant of the First Mass offered in this Church immediately after the consecration. Mar Joseph Pandarasseril, the Auxiliary Bishop of Kottayam was concelebrant and gave homily during the Holy Mass. Fr. Abraham Mutholath was appointed today as its first pastor. The convent building at 7801 W. Maple St., in Morton Grove near St. Mary’s Church was blessed on the same day at 1:00 P.M. after the consecration of the St. Mary's Church in Morton Grove.

2009

2009 January 3 Establishment of Knanaya Catholic Missions in Detroit and Las Vegas by Bishop Mar Jacob Angdiath. Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath is the mission director in Detroit and Fr. Thomas Mulavanal is the mission director in Las Vegas in addition to their current responsibilities. Detroit Mission consists of all Knanaya Catholics in the state of Michigan and Las Vegas mission is for Knanaya Catholic in Nevada and Arizona states.

2009 January 25 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath established Knanaya Catholic Mission in Tampa for Knanaya Catholics living in Central and North Florida. Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath is the director of the mission.

2009 February 21 Inauguration of the Knanaya Catholic Mission in Las Vegas by Mar Mathew Moolakkatt.

2009 April 4 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath consecrated Holy Family Knanaya Catholic Parish of Atlanta. This is the second parish of the Knanaya Catholic Region.

2009 April 18 The first feast and inauguration of Knanaya Catholic Mission of Detroit by Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath. Parishioners from Chicago took part in this.

2009 May 16 Inauguration of The Knanaya Catholic Mission of San Antonio by Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath. Fr. James Cheruvil is the first mission director.

2009 September 24 Knanaya Catholic Region Priests’ Meeting at Sacred Heart Church, Chicago.

2009 October 18 Vicar general Fr. Abraham Mutholath inaugurated Knanaya Mission at Minnesota. Fr. Abraham Muthoath is the official mission director. Fr. Biju Pattasseril is in charge of the mission. Eighty parishioners from Chicago participated in the function.

2009 October 23 Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath inaugurated the Knanaya Catholic Mission in Connecticut. Fr. James Ponganayil is the mission director.

2008

2008 July 5 Blessing of St. Thomas Syro- Malabar Dioceses of Chicago Cathedral.

2008 August 15 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath established Knanaya Catholic Mission in Atlanta with Fr. Stany Edathiparambil as its first mission director.

2008 September 20 Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath inaugurated the Knanaya Catholic Mission on Atlanta, Georgia in presence of its first mission director Fr. Stany Edathiparambil.

2008 November 20 Knanaya Region Meeting from 2:00 P.M. to 9:30 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church, Chicago.

2007

2007 May 31 Purchase of Rectory in Maywood for Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish from the Archdiocese of Chicago.

2007 June 1 Dedication of the first Knanaya Catholic Parish Cemetery for Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholics at Queen of Heaven Cemetery by Bishops Mar Jacob Angadiath, Bishop of Miao Mar George Pallipparambil, and Most Rev. Dr. Thomas Paprocki, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Chicago.

2007 July 21 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath established Knanaya Catholic Mission Miami in South Florida and appointed Fr. George Pakkuvettithara as it director in charge.

2007 September 28 First Meeting of Knanaya Region held in Chicago at Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish in Maywood. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, Vicar General and Region Director Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath, Priests and lay representatives from Knanaya Missions in the U.S. participated in it.

2007 December 1 General Body Meeting of the Knanaya Catholic Association of Atlanta, Georgia has decided to apply for a Knanaya Mission in Atlanta. Association president Jacob Athimattathil presided over the meeting. Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath and KCCNA General Secretary Cyriac Puthenpurayil made presentation on the relevance of a Knanaya Mission.

2006

2006 February 12 Family commission committee formed: Tonny Pullappally (Coordinator), Benny Kanjirappara, Molamma Thottichira and Jenny Thannikkary.

2006 March 4 Second Religious Education Festival in Chicago at Thaft High School. First presentation of Knanaya Kudiyetta Ballet with original songs published by Chicago Knanaya Catholic Mission.

2006 April 28 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath established seven regions in St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Diocese of Chicago. One of these regions is for all Knanaya Catholics in the diocese. “The formal Knanaya Catholic missions and the faithful of the Knanaya community living in other places where no formal missions are established will make one region.” Vicar General Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath is appointed as the director of this region.

2006 April 30 Mar Jacob Angadiath officially declared the establishment of Knanaya Catholic Region at OLV Church Chicago and appointed Vicar General Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath as Region Director.

2006 September 3, Sunday Inauguration of Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Church in Maywood at 10:00 A.M. by Vicar General Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath and parish council members.

2006 September 22 Official purchase of St. James Church in Maywood the Archdiocese of Chicago that became the Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish, the first church of the region.

2006 September 24 Blessing of new interior architectural work of Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Church, declaration of Chicago Knanaya Catholic Mission as Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish and appointment of Mission Director Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath as pastor or vicar of the parish by His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath.

2006 October 13 – 15 Pre-marriage course by Sacred Heart Knanaya Catholic Parish at Maywood.

2006 December 25 Vicar Fr. Abraham Mutholath sent a circular announcing the formation of St. Mary’s Unit for those Knanaya Catholics who attend OLV church for their pastoral needs with effect from January 1, 2007.

2005

2005 March 5 First Religious Education Festival by Chicago Knanaya Catholic Mission at Thaft High School.

2005 May 22 His Excellency Mar Mathew Moolakkatt requested the Knanaya Catholics in Chicago to establish our own church during his homily at IHM Church. The planning to have our own church started.

2005 September 23 Chicago Knanaya Catholic Mission started two-year Theology Course for lay people to learn more on the Church, Bible, and Spirituality. This helped for church awareness and development of dedicated volunteers.

2005 October 2 Chicago Knanaya Catholic Mission started publishing Sunday Bulletin for the mission. It was made available on parish website and printed copies were distributed in the churches during weekend Masses

2004

2004 December 3 – 5 First Pre-marriage Course offered by Chicago Knanaya Catholic Mission under the leadership of Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath and Family Commission headed by Tonny Pulllappally. Nineteen youth participated in the course.

2003

2003 February 11 At the request of Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath, Vicar General Fr. Abraham Mutholath moved his residence from Los Angeles to Chicago.

2003 October 29 Mar Jacob Angadiath officially recognized 10 Knanaya Catholic Mission Missions in the USA, as missions of the St. Thomas Diocese of Chicago. He requested all the directors in the respective missions to continue their service in the missions.

2002

2002 March 17 Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath established St. Pius X Knanaya Catholic Mission in Los Angeles and appointed Fr. Abraham Mutholath as the first mission director.

2001

2001 July 1 Inauguration of St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago and consecration of its bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath at Hyatt Hotel in Chicago. With the establishment of the St. Thomas Syro-Malabar Catholic Diocese of Chicago, all the Knanaya Catholics and Knanaya Catholic Missions in the U.S. came under this diocese.

2001 October 3 His Excellency Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Rev. Fr. Abraham Mutholath as Syncellus (Vicar General) of the Eparchy. His special charges in the diocese were over Catechism, Youth, Pious Associations, Vocations, Family Apostolate and Special Concerns of the Knanaya Catholic Community.

2000 July 1 Establishment of Knanaya Catholic Mission of San Jose with Fr. Dominic Madathilkalathil as its first mission director.

1983 October 28 Fr. Jacob Chollampel reached Chicago and started his special ministry while living in Church of St. Ita.

1982

1982 November 3 Bishop Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry’s letter to the then new Archbishop of Chicago Most Rev. Joseph L. Bernardin to reconsider the request for starting a new Knanaya Catholic Ministry in Chicago.

1981

1981 January Knanaya Catholics who migrated to Chicago and nearby areas from the Diocese of Kottayam gathered and sent requests to the Bishop of Kottayam Mar Kuriakose Kunnassery for a priest from Kottayam diocese to serve the Knanaya Catholics here.

1981 March 18 Mar Kuriakose Kunnacherry wrote to His Eminence John Cardinal Cody, Archbishop of Chicago asking his help to make provisions for appointing a priest for the Knanaya Catholic Ministry in Chicago.
