HISTORY

Fr. Joseph Meledath came to Houston on November 27, 1994 to take care of pastoral needs of the Knanaya community in Houston and Dallas. This mission was established in 1996 under the Latin hierarchy with Rev. Fr. Joseph Meledom as the mission director. Later Rev. Fr. Joseph Manappuarath became its mission director in September 1998. Mar Jacob Angadiath officially recognized the Knanaya Catholic Mission of Dallas on October 29, 2003, along with nine other Knanaya Catholic Missions in the USA, as a mission of the St. Thomas Diocese of Chicago. He also confirmed the appointment of Fr. Joseph Manapurath as the director of this mission. Rev. Fr. James Cheruvil became the mission director in January 2007. Rev. Fr. Jose Saurianmakil became the mission director on July 5, 2009.

The mission bought a church from Webb Chapel Baptist Church in Farmers’ Branch on June 7, 2010 under the leadership of Fr. Jose Sauriamakil. Bishop Mar Jacob Angadiath consecrated this church on July 26, 2010 and elevated the mission as a parish and appointed Rev. Fr. Joseph Sauriamkail as its first pastor.  Fr. Mathew Meledath was the second pastor from October 18, 2014 to June 26, 2016. Fr. Jose Chirappurath was pastor from June 28, 2016 to August 18, 2020. Fr. Renny Kattel was pastor from August 18, 2020 to January 14, 2022. Fr. Abraham Kalarickal was appointed as the pastor from January 27, 2022.

This parish serves around 400 Knanaya Catholic families in Dallas Fort Worth and northern part of Texas.

TIMELINE

1994 November 27: Fr. Joseph Meledath came to Houston to take care of pastoral needs of the Knanaya community in Houston and Dallas.

1996: Establishment of the mission under Latin hierarchy with Fr. Joseph Meledath as the director.

1998 September: Fr. Joseph Manappuarath became the mission director.

2003 October 29: Mar Jacob Angadiath officially recognized this mission as part of the diocese.

2007 January 1: Mar Jacob Angadiath appointed Fr. James Cheruvil as the director of the mission.

2009 July 5: Fr. Jose Sauriamakil became the mission director.

2010 June 7: The mission bought a church from Webb Chapel Baptist Church in Farmers’ Branch.

2010 July 26: Mar Jacob Angadiath along with Mar Mathew Moolakkatt and Mar Joseph Pandarasseril consecrated the church. Mar Angadiath elevated this mission as a parish with Fr. Jose Sauriamakil as the first pastor.

2014 October 18: Fr. Mathew Meledath was appointed as the pastor.

2016 June 28: Fr. Jose Chirappurath was appointed as the pastor.

2020 August 18: Fr. Renny Kattel was appointed as the pastor.

2022 January 27, 2022: Fr. Abraham Kalaricka was appointed as the pastor.
